One Day. One Yacht. One Life Changed.

A story about faith, purpose, and the unexpected beginning of Yachting Experts.

Twenty-five years ago, this picture was taken.

At the time, I had no idea it would become one of the most important photos of my life.

When I met Frank, he was a motoryacht captain running Joie Du Roy, a beautiful 70+ foot Viking Princess that spent winters on Fisher Island and summers in Cohasset, Massachusetts.

This was one of our first days together on the water.

Until then, I had never really experienced yachting from that perspective.

We spent the day cruising from Fort Lauderdale, watching what was then the Fort Lauderdale Land & Sea Show from the water, before making our way back to Fisher Island after sunset.

Twenty-five years later, I can still remember that ride.

People often assume what impressed me most was the yacht.

It wasn’t.

It was watching Frank.

The precision with which he handled the boat.

The calm confidence.

His attention to every detail.

The pride he took in making sure every guest felt welcomed, cared for, and safe.

Looking back now, I realize I wasn’t falling in love with a lifestyle.

I was falling in love with the way someone approached their work—with excellence, humility, and service.

That day changed something in me.

I remember thinking, I want other people to experience this feeling.

Not because everyone needs a yacht.

But because everyone deserves to experience what thoughtful hospitality, professionalism, and genuine care look like.

I had no idea then that years later we’d build Yachting Experts together.

That we’d help families buy their first boat, owners sell vessels that had become part of their lives, introduce clients to incredible destinations around the world, and spend our careers helping others create memories on the water.

Looking back after 25 years, it’s hard not to see God’s hand in it all.

I truly believe some moments aren’t coincidences.

Sometimes He quietly places people, opportunities, and experiences in our path long before we understand why.

This picture reminds me that one ordinary day can quietly become the beginning of an extraordinary journey.

I’m grateful I said yes to that day on the water.

And I’m grateful for every client, friend, captain, and colleague who has become part of the story since.

Here’s to the next chapter.
